“I loved this line from the back cover of Lily’s Payback: 'Can the teachers write a lesson plan to overcome the ruthless killer?' That one line nails the primary strength of author Andy Rose’s hardboiled mystery, which has a most unusual heroine: a middle school teacher. This is a great idea, a very fresh approach, and one the author makes terrific use of to tell a quick, exciting, plot-twisty tale of revenge and international intrigue.”

“This is a riveting story of powerful friendships built upon the very real human desire for vengeance that one feels after the murder of a loved one. Andy Rose writes this powerful and highly emotional novel against the backdrop of corporate espionage, international crime and mass murder on a global scale. It is a tale of ordinary people who take on an extraordinary challenge to confront one of the most dangerous criminals in the world. I found it hard to put down.”
R. Patrick Taggart - Retired Commissioner of Police, Yonkers, New York

“Loyalty, heroism and intrigue come together in this highly imaginative, action packed thriller that will keep the reader on the edge of their seat. The book incorporates the interplay between a group of determined teachers who are pitted against some remarkably unsavory characters in avenging the death of Lily’s brother. This conflict makes for a gripping, suspenseful roller coaster ride. Andy Rose's ingenious work compelled me to read this novel, without putting it down, from its foreboding start to its gratifying, bittersweet ending. It is must read.”
Larry DeMarco - Retired Teacher, Newburgh, New York

“Lily’s Payback, the compelling debut novel from former teacher Andy Rose, examines the intertwining of love, justice, and revenge. The plot threads come together in a thrilling climax and an exciting denouement. Rose delves into the grittiness of the New York setting with the same depth with which he plumbs the personality and heritage of each character. These rich characterizations result in a welcome change from many novels that make no mention of character ancestry. A tight plot, suspenseful action, a nuanced interplay among players, and an ethnically diverse cast.”

“Dr. Andy has crafted a wonderfully ingenious piece of thriller fiction. Lily goes through all the permutations fine fiction demands. In her quest, things get worse for her, and then worse than that, worse still and finally… You just have to love the Scottish lore and the Russian mafia! All this with the surprissing collaboration of other school teachers!"

"Hope the characters in this romantic thriller are continued in a sequel. I thoroughly enjoyed Andy Rose's book, Lily's Payback. Having taught at PS 20 on the Lower East Side in New York City, it was nostalgic to follow the characters to familiar places. One could smell the lasagna in Little Italy, the dough in Moishe's Biali store, and the pork in Chinatown's restaurants. The teachers in the novel are portrayed as professional and dedicated. A refreshing change from today's headlines! Teachers are heroes. Teachers ARE heroes. There was a shout out to Al Shanker, an inspiring union leader! Lily's Payback is engrossing, imaginative, sexy. Had to finish it in one sitting. Longing for more adventures. Religion, history, art and music are interspersed in the novel by the author, Andy Rose. I guess as an educator he couldn't help himself. The way those subjects should be taught, in story telling format. Relationships and intimacies are explored. A good read. Highly recommend. Very entertaining."

"Let me be transparent. I recently met author Andrew Rose and when I purchased his book, I told him I generally don't like mystery books or thrillers. That said, I found I couldn't put the book down. Rose weaves a tale of many strands that come together in a satisfying, if somewhat sad, ending. His action tale kept my interest and made me want to know his teacher characters. It's a fun read and a wonderful debut novel."
Elaine A. Palmer

"Lots of teachers feel impotent and helpless due to factors beyond their control. Their lives and careers are tossed around by economic realities or unfair politics. And, of course, the looming threat of not receiving tenure despite their competency. Andy Rose's book puts them in the role of real action heroes taking charge of a desperate situation, which is a unique concept that I do not believe has been implemented in any novel. It is an analogy of the role that teachers play in our lives and Andy Rose has been a lifelong advocate based on his many years of service as a school superintendent in New Jersey! Please do yourself a favor if you are an educator and read, Lily's Payback!"
